Pretoria, South Africa – 25 November 2025 – At the FETSI AI for Good: Accelerating Economic Digital Inclusion Across Sectors in Africa side event, Zaheer Haniff of Dell Technologies delivered a compelling keynote titled “The Resilience Backbone: Securing Africa’s AI Future for Inclusive Digital Transformation.” His address highlighted the critical role of security, trust, and resilience in ensuring that artificial intelligence drives equitable progress across the continent.
Haniff emphasized that as AI adoption accelerates, Africa must prioritize cybersecurity and resilient infrastructures to protect vulnerable communities. “Inclusive AI cannot exist without a foundation that safeguards data, systems, and citizens,” he noted, underscoring the interdependence of technology adoption and trust.
A central theme of Haniff’s presentation was the application of Zero Trust frameworks in African digital ecosystems. By assuming that no system or user is automatically trustworthy, Zero Trust approaches mitigate risks associated with cyberattacks, data breaches, and system failures. Haniff stressed that these frameworks are not just technical measures—they are enablers of inclusive economic participation, ensuring that SMEs, marginalized groups, and public institutions can engage confidently in AI-driven initiatives.
Haniff also addressed the human side of AI adoption, highlighting that communities with limited access to technology or digital literacy are at greatest risk of exclusion. He called for people-centered approaches that combine AI innovation with ethical, governance, and security considerations to prevent widening inequality.
Finally, Haniff positioned resilience as a strategic imperative for Africa’s digital transformation. By building systems that can withstand cyber threats, natural disruptions, and operational challenges, Africa can unlock the full potential of AI—transforming public services, boosting SME growth, and fostering equitable economic opportunities across sectors.
Haniff concluded with a powerful message for stakeholders: inclusive AI requires cross-sector collaboration, responsible governance, and secure infrastructure. Only by embedding these principles can Africa ensure that AI serves as a tool for empowerment rather than exclusion.
The keynote set the tone for FETSI’s AI for Good event, framing the discussions that followed around practical strategies for ethical, secure, and people-centered AI adoption, ensuring that no one is left behind in Africa’s digital future.
