Johannesburg, South Africa — This Mandela Day, FETSI Impact Hub did more than host an event. We activated a movement.
At Cosmo City, 400 matric learners from township schools were supported in one day through bursary applications, university and TVET college applications, bank account opening, career guidance, and digital literacy support. Not symbolically. Not theoretically. But in action.
Because at FETSI Impact Hub, we believe inequality is not solved through conversation alone — it is solved through system redesign.
FETSI Matric Ignite is built on four pillars:
Network access
Financial inclusion
Bursary and post-school opportunities
Digital skills development
We rebuild systems.
We’ve designed a model where no young person is left behind because of where they live, what they lack, or who failed them.
We do not ask for permission to lead. We do the work.
This Mandela Day, that work meant ensuring 400 learners did not walk away without practical support toward their futures.
Where WiFi is unstable.
Where learners share devices — or don’t have them at all.
Where hope sometimes skips generations.
That is where we show up.
A defining moment of the day was the keynote address delivered by FNB South Africa representative Matshidiso Tau, whose message of resilience, self-worth, and financial confidence resonated deeply with learners. Her address reinforced the importance of financial literacy as a foundation for independence and long-term stability.
Financial inclusion was further strengthened by Standard Bank South Africa, who joined as an exhibitor to provide on-the-spot bank account opening and financial literacy guidance — ensuring that learners are not only admitted into institutions of higher learning, but also integrated into the formal financial system.
Because access to education without access to finance is incomplete inclusion.
We proudly welcomed Nexus Ignite as an exhibitor, showcasing their work in soft skills development, SME capacity building, and labour market readiness. Their presence emphasized that youth empowerment must extend beyond matric — into entrepreneurship, employability, and sustainable economic participation.
Together with our volunteers and ecosystem partners, we demonstrated what coordinated, cross-sector collaboration looks like in practice.
This is not charity.
This is infrastructure for inclusion.
FETSI Matric Ignite aligns directly with national and continental priorities around:
Youth employment and economic participation
Financial inclusion frameworks
Digital transformation and skills readiness
Gender equity and inclusive growth
UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
We are building pathways from township schools to the digital economy.
From overlooked potential to undeniable futures.
If South Africa is serious about solving inequality, then scalable, access-driven models like FETSI Matric Ignite must move from side events to national strategy.
You want to solve inequality?
Start here.
We do not chase applause.
We deliver futures.
Mandela Day may have sparked the moment — but the work continues all year through digital skills training, post-school application support, financial literacy programs, and ecosystem partnerships.
FETSI Matric Ignite is no longer just an event.
It is a national call to action for inclusion, access, and youth empowerment.
And we are just getting started.
